Brick Pavers Vs. Concrete
When it comes to making the choice between brick pavers or poured concrete, there are many variables to consider. Some of these variables include cost, appearance and aesthetics, and longevity and durability of the product.
Cost Perspective
Pavers and concrete are typically priced by the square foot. Regular poured concrete is usually the least expensive product. When comparing the cost between stamped concrete and brick pavers, the two products are very close in price. Overall, pavers tend to cost a little more than stamped concrete as they are more labor intense to install.
Which Option is Better Looking?
For those of you who are interested in installing a new hardscape, I highly recommend going with brick pavers. There are many different colors, sizes and textures to choose from in the industry today. Whereas with concrete you only have one color and texture to work with. When we build brick paver patios, we often add an accent border around the perimeter to boost the appeal of the patio. We also add features such as seating walls and pillars to give your outdoor living space some dimension. Unfortunately for concrete, these options are not applicable.
Which Will Stand the Test of Time?
When making the choice between brick paving and pouring concrete, you have to consider longevity. Building a new patio, walkway or driveway can be a big investment and you will want to make sure that the product is going to last. Due to Michigan's climate, hardscapes are exposed to the freeze and thaw cycle every year. This can cause some movement in your hardscape. Fortunately, pavers are able to withhold this movement. As for concrete, there is a great risk of it cracking during this period. The other advantage to pavers is that if there is an area that happens to heave or settle, it is a quick and easy fix to re-level that area. When it comes to concrete, once an area cracks, you have to live with it or spend the money to replace it.
Pavers are the Best Option
So as you can see, there are many benefits to choosing pavers over concrete. They are more decorative and last much longer than concrete. Even though brick pavers cost a little more to install, they are well worth the investment. Over the years we have installed thousands of brick paving projects and have had great success with the product.
